Isaac won the Academy Award for Theme from Shaft, and was nominated for Best Original Dramatic Score for the same film.

In addition to creating a sound that has influenced Soul music for over three decades, he has appeared in numerous films and made countless TV appearances, either as himself, or disguised, as when he provides the voice for 'Chef' in Southpark. Isaac was inducted into Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame in 2002
